So this morning I sat down in my studio, with the camera, tripod, and remote. (also with pimples, grey roots and I could keep going but I’m gonna keep just sucking it up). I really wanted to have a picture of myself “at work” for my A Polymer Penchant etsy shop about page. I’ve noticed how much I like seeing that little picture when I am browsing.
I took 192 photos. The last little bunch actually had some shots I really liked but in adjusting the height of the camera I ended up with it refocusing on the foreground so the ones I like best were all too blurry to call soft focus.
Here is the “are you kidding me?” shot, half way getting up from my chair is in focus, not the 30 shots I just took sitting in it. Damn.
I think I’ve decided I like this one best, it looks the friendliest to me
Or maybe this one that has the best light of the bunch and is a little bit odd, candid.
Or this one that I sort of like because it’s the wider shot so you can see more of the
And last of the final four, it’s not that different from the first one. Except it is kind of overwhelming with STUFF. I should perhaps crop this one closer.
After almost no pictures of me on the blog, it feels weird to put up a whole bunch, but really I do think it is so nice to get to see everyone’s face online. So one of these will have to be it, will have to be my best, flaws and all. I’d love to have you weigh in!

Are you kidding? Sweetie you are beautiful! I love your photos with you in your studio. All the photos you took are wonderuful but l do like the second one the best.. or maybe the last one..
ReplyDeleteMy faves are the first, and the last. For A head shot, I'd crop the last one. But that's just me. All of them are blog-worthy!
ReplyDeleteOh I like the first one best, half out of the seat or not. You have a beautiful smile, so who cares about grey roots!!! I gotcha beat by a mile!
ReplyDeleteI like the first one the best... it has a look sort of along the line of if you don't buy something I'm gonna get you! Ot the last one uncropped ... what's an srtist without their 'junk'!
ReplyDeleteWasn't gonna vote, but everyone else is doin' it... #1 is the best "look" and just enough junk, er, supplies visible. You're braver than me. Everyone will have to settle for JUST kitties at my blog LOL.
ReplyDeleteFor a studio shot, I like the next to last one, for a head shot, crop the last one. It's so funny, cause I think you're just gorgeous, but I could totally feel what you were talking about in every pic! Guess that goes to show that most of us do feel funny posting shots of just us! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the last one, cropped so some of the stuff in the upper background is gone, but leave the foreground of your working area. You look great in all of them, and I can't see any flaws :-)
ReplyDeleteWell first I have to say you guys are the sweetest ever! But I juust had to add my hubby's comment when I showed him " that second one looks like someone is pinching your ass" umm ok guess it is out of the running lol
ReplyDeleteAll capture a beautiful woman, but my pick of the bunch is the profile one. I like the way the light shines on you and it shows what you're working on. Sort of looks like you're explaining how you do it, too, which is cool.
ReplyDeleteI like the third one down, the profile one--very nice and seems a bit more candid than some of the others. I also like the final one with ALL the stuff. Hey, stuff's important! And it shows the extent of the paraphernalia we need to create our beads/jewelry/etc. You ARE truly beautiful, so there's no reason at all to be embarrassed by any of them! xo Meridy
ReplyDeleteYou are beautiful!!!! These are all great, but I really like the last one! Excellent post!
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd one down for your profile on Etsy definitely! It's a pain doing a good selfie isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't see any flaws at all. And you were meant to wear that shade of blue. I also loved seeing the background of your supplies. Wow - you sure manage to fit a lot of art-in-the-making into a compact space. Love it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! The colour really suits you :)
ReplyDeleteSo many to pick from, it would be hard. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood to "see" you! I like your idea!...and I'm probably going to be odd man out as usual, because I like the first one. It's as if you are just getting out of your chair to say "Hello!".
ReplyDeleteOkay, no flaws, you're absolutely beautiful in all these shots! I like the last one because it does show off all your work 'things' (not junk at all!) and you look very happy and content. But my fav is the side one,...the one you called 'candid'. You look like you're working or teaching while telling someone about what you do - there's a certain sparkle in your eye in that one as well!
ReplyDeleteWhat are you worried about? You are definitely photogenic and that smile you have is gangbusters! I like the last one but cropped to a head shot. :)
ReplyDeleteI like them ALL. I don't really see a problem with any of them. Yet, I know how critical we can be of ourselves, our spaces, etc. I'm sure any of the ones you choose will be perfect!
ReplyDeleteAll the pictures of you are great. But I think the first one is the best for your etsy shop as it focuses on you.
ReplyDeleteEmma you are a beautiful lady. Your shots are great. I like the first one best.
ReplyDeleteI don't see any gray roots or pimples. Just your beautiful face! For a profile picture, I like the last one best. Or maybe the second one. You look warm and welcoming and it's great to see the studio in the background.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, it is nice to see what our online friends actually look like. You are so pretty, friendly, and young!!! It's really, really hard to get good self-portraits. I've done many of them for a daily project I did for a few years. It's funny how the image we have of ourselves in our minds doesn't match what others see when they view our picture. Your fresh, friendly pictures got me thinking that I need to revisit my profile pics.
ReplyDeleteOH what a great post! So fun to hear about your behind-the-scenes photo shoot. I know it's not easy to take self-timer photos. I think I forgot how to do that. These are ALL great. First of all, you are beautiful and so photogenic! You can't go wrong with any of them. My favorite is the final photo though - it has it all...a great smile, a natural pose, and framed by your incredible studio. And wow, that studio!!!
ReplyDeleteAren't we are worst critics?! You look beautiful and all the shots of your studio are excellent! Love all of them :)
ReplyDeleteYou'll hate me for this suggestion, but I'll make it anyway: try to get another bunch, with the camera in such a way the shot will be from down up (all your current ones are from up-down).
